The Südvorstadt is THE young district in Leipzig. Many students live here and it meets the city’s alternative left-wing scene. Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, affectionately called “Karli”, is one of Leipzig’s most colorful streets and the heart of the southern suburbs. On the so-called South Mile you can meet friends or relatives in one of the many cozy bars, cafés and pubs for a beer after work, cultural program or for bar hopping until the early hours of the morning. No wonder that there is even a photo booth here with a cultural status.
After a long night, a wander through Südplatz is worthwhile as you can meet people for chips and burgers to satisfy your appetite before going to bed. In addition, the Südvorstadt also has culinary highlights to offer. Do you want to experience what people ate in the GDR? The restaurant Kollektiv makes this possible. If you are looking for a thrill in the Südvorstadt, the best place to visit is the Scheibenholz racecourse, which directly borders the popular Clara-Zetkin-Park. Here in the summer there are flea markets and open-air theaters as well as exciting horse races, where you can get into the competitive spirit.
This district is also home to the HTWK (College of Technology, Economics, Culture), the second largest college, with a stronger technical and digital orientation. Since 2003, millions of visitors who have visited the Connewitz district on Richard-Lehmann-Straße have been marveling at fascinating 360-degree panoramas with accompanying exhibitions and making-of films in the panometer.

Mrs. Hippie, situated in the Gewerbehof Feinkost just outside the district limits, sells homemade clothing for all ages. For over 20 years, the name has stood for alternative fashion and offers fair, made in Europe garments from various in-house labels.

naTo is a Leipzig cultural institution and also houses a pub and a movie theater. Concerts, readings, theater performances and workshops on various topics take place here. In summer, naTo regularly organizes a soap box race on the artificially created hill Fockeberg.

Café Puschkin is a pub on the popular Karl-Liebknecht-Straße. It offers regional cuisine and homemade specialties in a relaxed atmosphere. Visitors can sit back and relax from everyday life with food and shisha.
The Löffelfamilie cultural monument, just outside the Südvorstadt, was originally a neon sign for the Leipzig VEB Delicatessen. It shows a family of four, sitting around a table, each with a plate in front of them and holding a spoon in their hand. Switching the lighting elements gives the impression that the family members keep bringing their spoons to their mouths. Nowadays, the Löffelfamilie lights up every evening for 90 minutes and additionally through donations by phone and SMS.
Fockeberg is an artificially created mountain from the rubble of cleared ruins. After adding extensive vegetation and redesigning, it invites you to relax and offers an amazing view of the Leipzig city center as well as the Auwald.
